Description
The expression of a fine wine from Vinsobres
The estate
Committed to traditional viticulture practices that respect the terroir and the environment, Famille Perrin has become a benchmark among fine Rhône Valley wines over the years. A pioneer in the innovative approach to organic farming since 1950 and then biodynamic methods in 1974, the Perrin family produces fine wines that are renowned beyond the country’s borders for their quality and refinement.
The wine
Les Cornuds 2019 by Famille Perrin is a Vinsobres wine made from vineyards located in the eponymous village, situated around twenty kilometres north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Perrin family reign over some sixty hectares of single-block terraced and hillside vineyards. This vineyard, recognised as the most northerly in the Southern Rhône Valley, rests on stony and sandy marl on the slopes, as well as stony quaternary alluvium on the terraces.
The vintage
The mild weather at the beginning of the year favoured an early budburst at the beginning of April as well as a gradual and homogeneous flowering period. Despite a scorching summer, the vines did not suffer from water stress, notably thanks to the spraying of chamomile tea.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are sorted, destemmed and vatted in a plot-by-plot manner. The Syrah grapes are vinified in truncated wooden vats and the Grenache grapes in stainless steel vats, with pumping over. Malolactic fermentation and blending.
