Description

A structured and aromatic red wine from the Loire by Famille Bourgeois

The estate

Created in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois, Arnaud, Lionel and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois are the third generation at the helm of this family-owned estate.

With a 72-hectare surface area, the Famille Bourgeois vineyard extends over a tapestry of soils composed of clay-limestone, Kimmeridgian marl and flint, which contribute to the signature style of each of these Loire wines.

Through the passion and rigour brought to both the vineyard management and the plot-based vinification process, of which it was one of the pioneers, the Bourgeois family produces wines recognised for their quality, their finesse and their pure expression of each of their fine terroirs of origin.

The vineyard

La Bourgeoise 2016 by the Bourgeois family is a Sancerre wine that takes its name from an ancient hillside site originally farmed by the monks of St. Satur. This wine is made from old vines that rest on south-west facing siliceous clay soils. The main advantage of the flinty soil is that it collects the heat during the day and releases it at night, enabling the grapes to ripen perfectly.

Vinification and ageing

The alcoholic fermentation in vats is completed by punching down and pumping over twice a day in order to extract a maximum of colour and tannins. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in 228-litre barrels, followed by racking and ageing of the wine in these barrels for 10 to 12 months. This prestigious wine is not marketed until 8 to 24 months after bottling (depending on the vintage).

Pinot Noir (100%).

Famille Bourgeois’ La Bourgeoise 2016: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Colour
This wine is a beautiful ruby colour.

Nose
The nose blends subtle vanilla notes with aromas of ripe red fruit (morello cherries, prunes).

Palate
The palate is seduced by this wine’s aromatic palette, its power and its structure. Due to the age of the vines and the low yields, the palate has a good concentration.

Food and wine pairing

The structure of this Sancerre La Bourgeoise 2016 by Famille Bourgeois will complement rich, spicy cuisine. Small game or marinated red meats (quail confit with currants and rosemary juice, a lamb roll and pan-fried porcini mushrooms) will provide a delicious food and wine pairing experience.

Cellaring

This Sancerre La Bourgeoise 2016 red wine by the Bourgeois family can be kept in the cellar until 2030 to express its full aromatic richness.
