Description
A fine Chilean wine by Rothschild that combines high standards, elegance and flamboyance
The estate
Baron Philippe de Rothschild has always been driven by a deeply-rooted pioneering spirit. At the end of the 1990s, their bold vision urged them to conquer the Chilean winegrowing lands. Upon arrival, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild was utterly smitten by what the land had to offer and saw the terroir’s immense potential. She then took over the running of the company, guided by the ambition to produce branded wines from these lands, that would stand out due to their superior quality.
The vineyard
The estate is located 45 kilometres south of Santiago, in the middle of the 60-hectare Viña Baron Philippe de Rothschild Chile vineyard, in the Maipo Valley. This valley is a true winemaking paradise on earth due to its unique and diverse soils and climates, which lead to the production of wines with a very distinctive identity.
The Baronesa P. vintage stems from a selection of the best micro-terroirs in the country. The vines are about twenty years old and are rooted in a balanced alluvial soil influenced by gravel, silt, clay and sand. The climate favours strong shifts in temperature between daytime and nighttime, which enables the fruit to reach perfect ripeness.
The wine
A tribute to Philippine de Rothschild, this special wine highlights the founder's fascination with the richness of Chilean soil. A fine blend, this vintage brings together five of the Maipo Valley's iconic grape varieties, while leaving the lion's share of Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon, a reference to Baroness Philippine de Rothschild's roots in Bordeaux.
Vinification and ageing
Following the manual harvest, the grapes are destemmed and sorted by hand and then by optical sorting. The grapes are then crushed before being vatted by gravity. The wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new and 40% are one-year-old. The same exacting standards are applied to each stage of the winemaking process, like the fine Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines in Pauillac.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (78%), Petit Verdot (6%), Carmenère (6%), Syrah (5%) and Cabernet Franc (6%).
