Description
The complexity and aromatic power of a red wine from Hermitage signed E. Guigal
The property
The E. Guigal Estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over in 1961. Today, the 3rd generation continues the legacy and values of this iconic family house in the Rhône Valley.
Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, the E. Guigal estate oversees a mosaic of vineyards located in numerous appellations that form a range of wines of impeccable quality.
Over the vintages, the E. Guigal house has experienced strong growth, notably becoming the owner in 1995 of the famous Château d’Ampuis, as well as several wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine or even the Château de Nalys, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
The vineyard
A reference among the wines of Hermitage, this cuvée comes from the Beaumes, Méal, Bessards and Hermite plots. About 30 years old, the vines are planted on clay-limestone and sandy-gravelly soils.
Vinification and aging
After manual harvesting, the grapes are rigorously sorted. Vinification takes place in closed stainless steel vats. Regular punch-downs and temperature control for nearly 3 weeks. The aging of this Rhône wine is about 36 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
