Description
The Riesling Grand Cru "Clos Saint Urbain Rangen de Thann" case, a showcase for exceptional vintages
The property
Nestled in Turckheim, in the heart of the Herrenweg vineyard, in the Haut-Rhin, the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is among the must-see references of Alsace. The Humbrecht family's wine history dates back to 1620, but it was in 1959, with the union of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind, that the property took its current name. Since 2009, their son Olivier, the first Frenchman to obtain the prestigious title of Master of Wine, has been running it, establishing himself as one of the most talented winemakers in the world.
The vineyard
The 40 hectares of vines are spread over ten terroirs distributed over six communes, including several grand crus of Alsace: Herrenweg (11.5 ha), Clos Windsbuhl (5.15 ha), Rangen (5.5 ha), Rotenberg (1.8 ha), Clos Häuserer (1.2 ha), Hengst (1.4 ha), Brand (2.4 ha), Clos Jebsal (1.3 ha), Heimbourg (4 ha) and Goldert (0.9 ha). These soils with distinct characteristics offer the typical Alsatian grape varieties ideal conditions to reveal their full expression.
Vinification and aging
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht favors slow vinifications, allowing fermentations to follow their natural course. The wines are aged on lees for six months, then bottled one to two years after the harvest, thus offering cuvées perfectly ready to be tasted.
An exceptional multi-vintage case
