The estate

Confident in the potential of the vineyards in Fenouillèdes, located above sea level and at the foot of the Pyrenees, Gérard Gauby, a producer renowned for his fine Roussillon wines, founded Domaine Le Soula in 2001 with two British importers (Roy Richards and Mark Walford). The first red and white wines released by the estate were soon renowned for their purity and liveliness.

In 2008, Gérald Standley (Château Terrasson) joined the estate. He was succeeded by Wendy Wilson who, with a wealth of international winemaking experience, joined the estate in 2014 before taking over the running of the property in 2016.

The vineyard

The estate watches over a 22-hectare vineyard that spreads over a tapestry of small plots, which have been farmed in an organic manner since the foundation of the estate and biodynamically since 2008.

Domaine Le Soula 2018 is an IGP Côtes Catalanes wine that stems from a vineyard situated between 350m and 600m above sea level. This terroir benefits from a Mediterranean climate and is based on soils made up of decomposed granite and black schist.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand from September 11th to October 5th and undergo a 12 to 15-day whole bunch maceration (84%), 8-day destemming (14%) and direct pressing (2%). Fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 22 months in tuns (71%) and demi-muids and barrels (29%).
