Description
A fresh and fruity Pouilly-Fumé wine
The estate
Henri Bourgeois set up his eponymous estate in 1950, when he started working two hectares of vines in the middle of the village of Chavignol, with the ambition of producing quality wines that reveal the great Sancerre terroirs.
Arnaud, Lionel and Jean-Christophe Bourgeois are the third generation to run the estate, whose wines have been united since January 2018 under the Famille Bourgeois name.
The estate wins particular attention, as much for its respect for biodiversity when running the vineyard as for the precision of its plot-based winemaking. In this it is one of the pioneers, ensuring each wine gives the purest expression of each of these great terroirs.
The vineyard
En Travertin 2021 from the Famille Bourgeois estate is a Pouilly-Fumé wine that comes from a vineyard cultivated with biological agriculture on the clay-limestone hills of Saint-Andelain. These soils are made up of limestone rock which gives the wine its name : travertine is a variety of this kind of rock, formed by sedimentation.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest, the grapes were given a soft pressing and a 24-hour static settling. Fermentation took place in thermoregulated stainless steel vats at a temperature of between 15 and 18°C. This long fermentation at a low temperature allowed the most intense and the most delicate scents to be released. Maturation on fine lees for this Loire wine took five months before bottling.
