Description
A persistant and aromatic Roussillon red wine
The estate
Located 20 kilometres northwest of Perpignan, Domaine Gauby is an unmissable name in Roussillon wines. With a surface area of around 85 hectares, the estate's terroir is made up of 45 hectares of vines, some of which are over a hundred years old, as well as 40 hectares of meadows, oak forests and scrubland. Situated at an altitude of between 150 and 200 metres and overlooking the sea, the vines benefit from a wild, arid and steep environment, favouring deep rooting in soils composed of limestone, marl and schist.
Concerned about preserving its environment, this Roussillon estate manages its vineyard without chemical and synthetic products in favour of natural products (plants, essential oils, compost, etc.).
The vineyard
Vieilles Vignes 2016 from Domaine Gauby is an IGP Côtes Catalanes wine that stems from 120-year-old vines cultivated organically, in polyculture and in agro-forestry on soils made up of limestone and schist.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand, the grapes were sorted in the cellar before being 100% destemmed. Vinification was carried out in a traditional way, with a 2-4 week maceration and fermentation through indigenous yeasts. Ageing took place exclusively in barrels for a period of 24 months.
Blend
Grenache (25% - 55-year-old vines)
Carignan (35% - 125-year-old vines)
