Description
The persistance and aromatic richness of a Côtes du Roussillon Villages red wine
The estate
Voted Best Young Sommelier of France at the age of 21, Hervé Bizeul fell in love with the fairytale landscapes of the majestic Vingrau circus, at the foot of the Pyrenees Orientales, in Roussillon. Restaurateur, writer and passionate for land and vine, Hervé Bizeul founded Domaine du Clos des Fées with his wife in 1997.
Over the years, Domaine du Clos des Fées has become a major name among the finest wine labels in Roussillon. Expressing the singularity of their terroir of origin, these exceptional vintages delight with their intensity and balance while having a great ageing capacity.
The vineyard
A major name among the great Roussillon wines, Domaine du Clos des Fées oversees a 30-hectare vineyard spread across 112 plots on a real mosaic of soils run in a sustainable manner.
The wine
La Petite Sibérie from Domaine du Clos des Fées is a Côtes du Roussillon Villages wine made from a single plot of old vines planted on the southern slope of an east-west facing hill. The vines are grown on a clay-limestone soil made up of schist flows with a high iron content. The plot is crossed by an icy north-west wind more than 200 days a year.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvest done by hand. Maceration for 20 days with extraction by delicate punching down. Run off into new barrels. Aged on lees, without sulphur. Regular racking with a Mourvèdre/Syrah blend.
Blend
Grenache (96%)
Mourvèdre (2%)
Syrah (2%)
Characteristics and tasting tips for La Petite Sibérie 2018 from Domaine du Clos des Fées
Tasting
Nose
Powerful and complex, the nose, at first dominated by vanilla notes, evolves with airing towards fragrances of black fruits, blackberry jam, blackcurrant and blueberry.
Palate
The palate unveils with finesse velvety tannins and a lovely freshness, with a long persistance.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with game (venison), duck breast in Tamarin sauce, or spicy dishes. It is also a fine match for a mature Saint-Nectaire cheese, or, more generally, creamy cheeses with a washed rind.
