Description

The minerality and aromatic richness of a fine white wine from Pessac-Léognan

The estate

The name of Domaine de La Solitude originates from a rule of the community of the Holy Family: to pray in the silence of solitude. The community moved to the estate in the 19th century. The nuns decided to entrust the wine management of this Pessac-Léognan estate to outside parties. Since 1993, Olivier Bernard has been managing the estate. A very old property of Martillac, Domaine de la Solitude is distinguished by the quality of its wines, offering fantastic value for money. These wines are accessible in their youth, but also promise a good ageing evolution.

The vineyard

A major name among Pessac-Léognan wines, Domaine de la Solitude spreads over 30 hectares of vines that rest on a gravelly soil upon a clay-gravel subsoil. 7 hectares of the vineyard are dedicated to the cultivation of white grape varieties.

The vintage

The first months of the year were marked by heavy rainfall until 20 June. Despite these wet conditions, a very mild period between 4 and 11 June allowed for an optimal flowering period. This was followed by a particularly dry summer, which did not affect the vines thanks to their deep roots. The rainy spell on 13 September was a lifesaver for the vineyard, ensuring progressive ripening until the harvest.

Winemaking and ageing

Manual harvesting based on ripeness levels. Slow pressing precedes alcoholic fermentation in barrels, as does ageing on lees for 7 to 10 months.

Blend

Sauvignon Blanc (65%)
Sémillon (35%).
