Description
An expressive and elegant Barolo wine by Cordero Montezemolo
The estate
Located in the village of La Morra, the Cordero Di Montezemolo estate is an iconic reference in the Langhe wine area, in the north of Piedmont in Italy.
The vineyard
Cordero Di Montezemolo watches over a vineyard comprised of nearly 51 hectares, situated in the exceptional terroirs of the Barolo appellation. The estate's wines are renowned well beyond the Italian borders for their complexity, power and great ageing potential.
The wine
Cordero di Montezemolo's 2018 Monfalletto is made from a selection of numerous vineyards in the Barolo appellation. Situated between 250 and 300 metres above sea level and enjoying a southwestern to southeastern sun exposure, this terroir comprises over 13 hectares of vines, aged from 10 to 50 years old and planted on soils rich in magnesium and manganese, made up of silt, clay and sand.
The vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand between the end of September and the beginning of October, depending on the vintage, and are then fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks for about 10 days. Following the racking process, malolactic fermentation is carried out in different-sized barrels from France and Slavonia. The wine is aged for 19 to 22 months in barrels, depending on the batch. Tasting and blending before bottling, followed by an additional year of ageing before the wine is put on the market.
The blend
This 2018 Monfalletto from Cordero di Montezemolo is a 100% Nebbiolo.
