Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Valandraud 2023
Tasting
Ample and generous, this vintage seduces with its beautiful acidity that harmoniously balances the sweetness and a particularly silky touch.
An unctuous and delicate Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
The property
First Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, the Château Valandraud shines among the most beautiful properties of the appellation.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Valandraud is located on clay-limestone and siliceous-gravelly soils. 6.6 hectares of vines are dedicated to the production of this Saint-Émilion wine. This 2023 vintage is made from vines that are 22 years old on average.
The vintage
A relatively mild winter precedes a warm spring with low but regular rainfall. If these conditions favour rapid vegetative development, they also lead to a mildew pressure of rare intensity until mid-July, controlled by the efforts and rigour of the teams. The high temperatures in September ensure optimal maturity of the grapes before the harvest, which takes place under favourable conditions from 21 September to 15 October.
Vinification and ageing
Manual harvest. Densimetric sorting in order to retain only the berries of optimal quality. Ageing from 18 to 22 months in 100% new barrels and 15 hl vat.
Blend
Merlot (84%)
Cabernet Franc (8%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (8%)
