Description
The freshness and elegance of a fine Saint-Emilion wine
The estate
The origin of the name "Trottevieille" dates back several hundred years. Legend has it that there was once a stagecoach stop near the château. As soon as a team stopped, an elderly lady trotted down to get the news, hence the name “Trotte Vieille” (meaning “the Trot of the Elderly”). This Premier Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Émilion, Château Trotte Vieille, is home to a small parcel of vines rescued from the terrible damage caused by phylloxera during the second half of the 19th century.
The vineyard
Château Trotte Vieille 2021 is a Saint-Emilion wine made from a 12-hectare vineyard that rests on reddish soil upon a limestone subsoil.
The vintage
The rainy winter was marked by alternating mild and cool temperatures. The beginning of spring was punctuated by two episodes of frost on April 7th and 8th. Although the hot and dry conditions in May favoured a good flowering period, the cool and damp conditions in June led to rigorous monitoring by the château's teams, who worked towards preserving the vineyard's healthy condition. July and August were relatively cool with shifting weather conditions. The rainfall at the beginning of September gave way to a sunny and dry October.
Vinification and ageing
The 2021 vintage inaugurates the estate's new cellars. Aged in French oak barrels (50% new and 50% second-fill barrels).
The blend
Cabernet Franc (54%)
Merlot (45%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (1%).
