Description
The typicality of a red wine from Margaux revealed by Château Siran
The estate
Owned by the Miailhe family for over 160 years, Château Siran has been renowned for the quality of its wines since the 18th century.
The vineyard
Located in the Margaux appellation, Château Siran reigns over a 25-hectare vineyard with a superb setting in gravel and pebble soils. The vines are planted on outcroppings of old alluvial soils, covered with fine clayey gravel. The vineyard is managed with sustainable viticulture and without chemical herbicides.
The wine
"I grew up with parents who were passionate about art and always wanted to share their pleasure and build bridges between art and wine. This passion was also passed on to me!" (Édouard Miailhe)
Art collectors, William-Alain and Brigitte Miailhe, the parents of Édouard Miailhe, the current owner of Château Siran, commissioned many artists to design and produce illustrated labels between 1980 and 2005.
Focusing on various themes (art, science, sport, history, politics), the labels of these 26 vintages have been created by well-known artists such as Albert Decaris, Jean-Michel Folon, A.R Penck, Zao Wou-Ki, Ben, Mark Alsterlind, Paco Rabanne or Mitsuyuki Tanaka.
The 2020 vintage celebrates the 160th harvest of the Miailhe family at Château Siran. To mark this special occasion, the estate is reviving its artistic tradition and will henceforth unveil a new label for each vintage which portrays a major event that occurred over the past year.
Created by the Franco-Chilean artist Federica Matta, the label of this 2020 Château Siran wine is inspired by the Covid pandemic. Her bright and vibrant drawings are an ode to the "world after" the pandemic, to the importance of sharing, to happiness and to the joy of living.
Vinification and ageing
Manually harvested in small crates, the grapes are subject to sorting on the vine as well as on sorting tables at the cellar. Plot-by-plot vinification. Fermentation is carried out in thermoregulated stainless steel vats of 60 to 180hL, accompanied by pumping over and rack and return depending on the batch. Maceration at 28-30°C, followed by vatting for 18 to 24 days. Malolactic fermentation is, in part, carried out barrels. Ageing lasts for 12 months in French oak barrels (35% new).
The blend
The 2020 Château Siran is made from a blend of Merlot (47%), Cabernet Sauvignon (43%), Petit Verdot (9%) and Cabernet Franc (1%).
