Description
The indulgence and finesse of a Saint-Julien red wine
The estate
Château Moulin Riche is located to the north-west of the Saint-Julien appellation. This estate on the left bank of Bordeaux was acquired by the Cuvelier family in 1920, who also owns the Léoville Poyferré and Le Crock châteaux.
The vineyard
Château Moulin Riche overlooks a 20-hectare vineyard in one piece. Made up of Garonne gravel upon sand and clay, this terroir imparts an elegance and a structure that is typical to the appellation.
The wine
Initially a Second Wine of Château Léoville Poyferré, Château Moulin Rouge has been the appellation’s First Wine since 2009.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested manually in crates, the bunches are rigorously sorted at the vine then in the cellar, keeping only the berries of the best quality. Plot-based vinification is carried out in thermoregulated stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out using selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is undertaken in new barrels. Ageing lasts for 18 months in French oak barrels (25% new, 75% of one previous wine).
Blend
Château Moulin Riche 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (20%) and Petit Verdot (15%).
