Description
The sublime aromatic expression of a Saint-Estèphe Second Cru Classé offering a superb ageing potential
The producer
Owned by the brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues since 2006, Château Montrose is an iconic reference in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This Second Cru Classé in 1855 watches over one of the most beautiful terroirs in the Médoc wine region. Today, as in the past, Château Montrose stands out due to the quality of its wines, its style and its distinctiveness, making this property a key estate with a worldwide reputation.
The vineyard
Situated in an exceptional location, considered as one of the greatest terroirs in the Bordeaux region, Château Montrose's vineyard covers 95 hectares of vines. This vast single block vineyard is a rarity on a terroir regarded as an "elite core". Located not far from the Gironde estuary, the Château Montrose vineyard is planted on gravel terraces mixed with sand on the surface, while the subsoil is clayey.
The blend
Château Montrose 2010 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), Merlot (37%), Cabernet Franc (9%) and Petit Verdot (1%).
The tasting
Colour
Dense and deep, the colour is a beautiful black with ruby highlights.
Nose
Complex, this wine mixes mocha and violet fragrances with fruity notes (blackcurrant, raspberry).
Palate
Rich and supple, the palate combines fruity aromas (blackcurrant, morello cherry, redcurrant) and delicious notes of cocoa. Precise and long, this wine is seducing due to its richness and balance. The finish reveals fine tannins and a great precision.
Storage
This Château Montrose 2010 can be kept in the cellar until around 2070, which will enable it to reveal its full aromatic range.
