Description
A great red wine from Saint-Estèphe bearing the signature of the greatest vintages
The estate
Situated on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Meyney enjoys an exceptional location, near the Gironde estuary. With origins dating back to 1662, this property of the subsidiary Crédit Agricole Grands Crus has experienced a remarkable rise in quality in recent decades. The wines of Château Meyney are among the most beautiful references of the Saint-Estèphe appellation and the Médoc in general.
The vineyard
Neighbouring that of Château Montrose, the vineyard of Château Meyney extends over fifty-something hectares, all in one piece. The vineyard is planted in soils of Garonne gravel with one notable particularity. A vein of blue clay 3 metres thick, like the one found on the terroir of Pétrus, lies buried in the subsoil.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage opened with a very rainy and mild winter which immediately laid the foundations for an early vintage. The talent of the teams at the château was therefore put to the test of a very rapidly evolving vine cycle. Thanks to its great know-how, the estate has succeeded in enhancing, with its work, the solar, spicy, unctuous but also fresh and tight character of grapes, offering a wine bearing the signature style of the greatest vintages.
Winemaking and ageing
Once manual harvests are carried out, the grapes are subject to a double sort, first manual then optical. The grapes are then vinified on a plot-by-plot basis. After cold pre-fermentation macerations, alcoholic fermentation begins. The wines carry out part of the malolactic fermentation in new barrels. The 2020 Château Meyney is aged in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new wood.
Blend
The 2020 Château Meyney is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (52%), complemented by Merlot (35%) and Petit Verdot (13%).
