Château Marquis de Terme 2021

A fine Margaux red wine with a delicate and rich aromatic palette

The estate

Château Marquis de Terme is poised in the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. The origins of the vineyard date back to the 15th century, but the estate took on its current name in the 18th century when the Marquis de Terme took over the running of the château. Since 1935, the Sénéclauze family has owned this Margaux Grand Cru.

The vineyard

Château Marquis de Terme 2021 is a Margaux wine that stems from a 40-hectare terroir. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted in deep gravel soils, a typical feature of the appellation, made up of thick quartz and quartzite. Some plots have more clay. The vineyard is managed in a plot-by-plot manner and has been awarded the High Environmental Value level 3 certification.

The vintage

A mild winter preceded a spring with cool, rainy conditions that lasted until June. The heat and low rainfall throughout summer precede the months of September and October, whose conditions were ideal and helped to refine the ripeness of the grapes.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand in crates and sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. The vinification is carried out in concrete, wood and stainless steel vats, filled by gravity-flow and without pumping. Cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic fermentation with natural yeasts, accompanied by punching down. Vinification without sulphites.  Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (50% of which are new).

The tasting

Colour

The colour is deep and intense.

Nose

Complex, the nose combines fruity (blackcurrant, blueberry) and spicy (white pepper) fragrances with notes of cedar and menthol.

Palate

Balanced and very elegant, the palate gives off notes of fresh blackberries and cocoa. The palate is seductive with its silky tannins, sustained by a refreshing acidity. The finish is persistent and reveals a delicious hint of liquorice.
