Château Lespault-Martillac 2016

A red wine from Pessac-Leognan with an elegant finish

Produced in the Pessac-Leognan appellation, Chateau Lespault-Martillac is grown on an 8 hectare vineyard. The vines are, on average, 40 years old planted on soil that is clay and gravel based. The wine is aged in barrels (1/3 in new barrels) for an average of 14 months. For the first four months, the wine ages on lees. 2016 is a blend of Merlot (65%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (35%).

From January 1^st to 20^th, water reserves were high thanks to high precipitation levels. June 4^th - June 11^th brought beautiful weather and flowering. Summer was well underway from July 1^st and was defined by its heat and drought. The drought blocked maturation of the grapes. On September 13^th, maturation was accelerated with rain. Harvest was serene and the grapes, all varieties, reached perfect maturity.

Chateau Lespault-Martillac 2016 is a dark, red colour that is intense and bright. Crisp aromas of ripe, fresh red fruits are present. A full-bodied red wine that is fruity and smooth, with a delicious sweetness. A balanced and refined red with a long, elegant, mineral finish.
