Description
An iconic Saint-Julien from a great vintage ending in 9
The estate
A 2nd Classified Growth of 1855, Château Léoville Poyferré belongs to the elite circle of Bordeaux Grands Crus. With origins dating back to 1638, the Léoville Poyferré estate is a real jewel of the Médoc. Succeeding Didier Cuvelier, Sarah Lecompte-Cuvelier now presides over the destiny of this icon of the Saint-Julien appellation.
The vineyard
Enjoying a magnificent location in the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Léoville-Poyferré reigns over a 60-hectare vineyard dedicated to the production of the château's First Wine and Second Wine. The vines are aged 37 years on average and located on terraces of Mindel gravel upon clayey-sandy subsoils. The estate has held the HVE 3 certification since the 2017 vintage.
The vintage
For this 2019 vintage, the harvest was carried out from September 20 to October 11, 2019 and done by hand, with a first manual sorting, followed by an optical sorting of the fruit
The winemaking
The Château Léoville Poyferré 2019 was subject to partial vinification in thermoregulated frustoconical stainless steel tanks. A cold pre-fermentation maceration was carried out for 6 to 8 days before the alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation took place in new barrels.
The blend
The Château Léoville Poyferré 2019 is made from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (67%), complemented by Merlot (27%), Petit Verdot (3%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
The ageing
The Château Léoville Poyferré 2019 was aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels (80% new and 20% barrels of one previous wine).
