Description
The finesse and complexity of an exceptional Cru Bourgeois from Saint-Estèphe
The estate
Located within the Saint-Estèphe appellation and built at the beginning of the 19th century, Château Le Crock was acquired in 1804 by the Cuvelier family, who also owns the Léoville Poyferré and Moulin Riche châteaux. Since 2018, Sara Lecompte Cuvelier has been at the head of this estate on the left bank of Bordeaux, renowned for the quality of its wines as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel Supérieur in 1932 and Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2020.
The vineyard
Château Le Crock overlooks a 32-hectare vineyard in Saint-Estèphe that spreads over three different regions. This estate’s terroir is made up of gravel, surface-level sand and clay subsoil and is located close to the Gironde. It is unique in its ability to retain heat, drain soils and establish a natural water reserve. The vines are 41 years old on average.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested manually in crates, the bunches are rigorously sorted at the vine then in the cellar, keeping only the best quality grapes. Plot-based vinification is carried out in thermoregulated, truncated stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out using selected yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is undertaken in new barrels. Aged for 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new).
The blend
Château Le Crock 2021 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (7%).
