Description
A Saint-Emilion Grand Cru red wine with a beautiful roundness
The estate
With archives testifying to its existence as early as 1585, Château Larmande is one of the oldest properties in Saint-Émilion, on the right bank of Bordeaux. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is owned by the AG2R LA MONDIALE Group.
The vineyard
Château Larmande 2016 stems from a 20-hectare single vineyard. The vines are 20 years old on average and are planted on clay-limestone soil made up of ancient sands, clay and silica.
The vintage
2016 was marked by a very wet winter and spring. On the contrary, the summer was the hottest and driest since 1990. Lastly, the rainfall in September, as well as the Indian summer with its wide temperature variations led to a perfect ripening of the grapes and an excellent yield. The harvest took place under perfect conditions from 22 September to 18 October.
Vinification and ageing
The wine is aged in oak barrels, with a proportion of 60% new barrels and 40% second-fill barrels.
The blend
Merlot (77%), Cabernet Franc (19%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (4%).
