Description
The brightness of a powerful and elegant Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
Located on the edge of Pomerol and in the western part of the Saint-Emilion appellation, Château La Dominique is one of the most prestigious properties on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux region. Boldness, precision and generosity are the key words that guide this Grand Cru Classé in the making of its wines.
The name of Château La Dominique comes from a rich merchant who owned the estate at the end of the 18th century. The name was inspired by the famous island of the same name in the Caribbean.
The vineyard
An illustrious reference among the wines of Saint-Émilion, Château La Dominique looks after a 30-hectare vineyard on brown sandy and clay soils.
The vintage
The 2015 vintage was exceptional and ranks among the great years of Bordeaux. From April to June, the weather conditions were perfect. At harvest time, the grapes had reached an ideal phenolic ripeness, with levels similar to 2009 and 2010.
Winemaking and ageing
Once the grapes had been harvested by hand, vinification took place in temperature-controlled vats. 2015 is the first vintage in the new winery, a state of the art vinification tool allowing for gentle extractions with extended maceration over 4 weeks. Aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
Blend
Merlot (85%)
Cabernet franc (13%)
Cabernet sauvignon (2%).
