Description

The freshness and aromatic expression of a Margaux Cru Classé

The estate

Chosen as a 3rd Classified Growth of Margaux during the great classification of Médoc wines in 1855, Château Kirwan has belonged to the Schÿler family since 1925. The dynamic Philippe Delfaut has endowed the estate with new infrastructures and elevated it to the height of its appellation. Château Kirwan today belongs to the elite circle of Margaux Grands Crus.

The vineyard

Château Kirwan 2010 is a Margaux wine made that stems from a 37-hectare vineyard, located on the Cantenac plateau. This superb gravel and clay hill provides all the conditions necessary for the ripening of the great Médoc grape varieties.

The vintage

Following two years marked by hail, 2010 began with an irregular spring which affected the flowering period, particularly of the Merlot grapes. The summer season was particularly dry and beneficial for the vineyard thanks to its high temperatures which favoured a slow and complete maturation of the phenolic compounds. Despite the small and concentrated grapes, they reveal a beautiful freshness.

Vinification

Sorting in the vines and in the vat room on a double vibrating sorting table. Gentle vinification with selected yeasts. Simultaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maceration for 18 to 25 days. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (45% new).

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (50%)

Merlot (35%)

Cabernet Franc (9%)

Petit Verdot (6%).
