Description
The freshness and balance of a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
The estate
Château Grand Mayne is a great vessel in a sea of vines in the heart of the Saint-Émilion appellation. Established in the 15th century, the property did not produce wine until the 17th century. In the 18th century, the Laveau family elevated the vineyard and estate to the top of the appellation. In 1934, the Nony family took over the wine estate and undertook major renovations. Today, the Nony family, still at the helm of Château Grand Mayne, continues to produce spectacular Bordeaux wines.
The vineyard
Château Grand Mayne is a Saint-Emilion wine made from 17 hectares of vines, of which 15 are in production. The vines are 37 years old on average and are planted on a clay-limestone slope at the foot of a clay hill.
The vintage
A very early budburst (March 17th) was followed by two periods of frost, from March 20th to 23rd and then from April 6th to 8th, which particularly affected one plot. The qualitative and homogeneous flowering stage preceded a significant period of rain leading to strong mildew pressure. The mild summer favoured a slow ripening process while halting the disease pressure. The grapes harvested between September 30th and October 13th were healthy and perfectly balanced.
Vinification and ageing
Alcoholic fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels (60%) and vats (40%). Aged in barrels (60% new and 40% second-fill barrels).
The blend
Merlot (75%)
Cabernet Franc (25%).
