Description
The freshness and finesse of a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
A Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, Château Franc Mayne enjoys an exceptional location in the prestigious appellation. Owned by the Savare family since 2018, Château Franc Mayne is enjoying a great momentum of renewal. The property is beautifully represented by the signature style of its wines, which reveal a pure expression of the Saint-Emilion terroir.
The vineyard
Château Franc Mayne 2021 is a Saint-Emilion wine made from a 7-hectares vineyard, of which 5.68 hectares are used for production. Enjoying a beautiful location, the vines rest on the appellation’s limestone plateau. The vines are 20 years old on average and are planted on slopes composed of clay and sandy-clay soils.
The vintage
Although the mild and relatively wet winter favoured a very early budburst, the beginning of spring was marked by an episode of frost from April 8th to 13th. Thanks to the substantial means of protection implemented for the first time in the history of the estate, the vineyard was hardly affected. Subsequently, the unstable weather conditions caused both a rapid development of the vineyard and a strong mildew pressure, which impacted yields. The dry and sunny weather from mid-August onwards, as well as pleasant temperature variations, were ideal and helped to refine the ripening of the grapes until the harvest.
Vinification and ageing
Aged in barrels (50% new barrels, 50% in vats, amphorae and second-fill barrels).
The blend
Merlot (100%).
