A refined Listrac-Médoc red wine with a seductive complexity

The estate

Château Fourcas Hosten is a wine estate located in the heart of the Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Founded in 1810, the property was acquired in 2006 by two brothers, Renaud and Laurent Mommeja, with the goal of making this estate an essential reference among fine Listrac-Médoc wines.

The vineyard

Château Fourcas Hosten comprises a 50-hectare vineyard, spread over two terroirs with an identical surface area and resting on gravelly but also on clay-limestone soil.

Since the acquisition of the estate by the Mommeja family, major restructuring work has been carried out on the vineyard. The entire vineyard is currently converting to organic farming and is managed according to certain biodynamic requirements.

The vintage

The first months of 2019 were marked by an early budburst, two frosts and a storm recorded on June 10th, during the flowering period which led to coulure The milder summer conditions from mid-June onwards were punctuated by four rainy spells, which limited water stress. Harvested at optimum ripeness the concentrated grapes led to a highly elegant aromatic wine.

Vinification and ageing

The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 43% of which are new, 28% in first-fill barrels and 29% in second-fill barrels.
