Description

The delicacy and power of a Saint-Julien fine red wine from an exceptional vintage

The estate
An iconic Classified Growth of Saint-Julien, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou reigns over a prestigious terroir. In the past 300 years, six families have worked ceaselessly to elevate this estate to the international reputation it enjoys today. A property of the Borie family since 1941, the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou takes its name from its terroir of “beautiful pebbles” made up of Gunzian gravel. Under the leadership of Bruno Borie, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou has become one of the greatest red wines of Saint-Julien. Vintage after vintage, the estate’s wines have delighted fans of the Médoc around the world.

The vineyard
The singular nature of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is due to the exceptional quality of its vineyard. The vines are planted on Gravel Gunzian and Pyrenean soils deposited by the river almost two million years ago. From these lean and poor soils come exceptional wines. The proximity of the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou vineyard to the Gironde estuary provides natural protection against the vagaries of the weather.

The vintage
No fewer than 50 people contributed to the production of this 2019 vintage from Château Ducru-Beaucaillou. Like a family, the multicultural team at Château Ducru-Beaucaillou works from the vineyard to the cellar, united by a shared quest for excellence.

The ageing
18 months of ageing (100% new French oak barrels).

The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (80%), merlot (20%).

The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2019 displays a deep, dark and bright purple colour. Intense and powerful, the aromatic bouquet reveals floral fragrances, such as rose, along with beautiful roasted notes, woody notes and gourmet touches of cocoa. From the attack on the palate, the wine reveals its exceptional character. The power of the Saint-Julien terroir is expressed perfectly and combined with great delicacy. The finish is very generous, stretching forth for a long time, leaving behind tasty notes of country bread on the palate.
