Description
A Beaujolais red wine with a delightful richness and elegance
The estate
A veritable monument to wine, Château du Moulin-à-Vent has been located in the prestigious appellation of the same name in northern Beaujolais since 1732. Today, Château du Moulin-à-Vent has a history spanning more than 300 years, during which time three families have succeeded one another. Although their histories differ, they have all shared the same certainty: that of the pre-eminence of Moulin-à-Vent. Under the aegis of the Parinet family since 2009, Château du Moulin-à-Vent is now undergoing a remarkable renaissance thanks to the dedication of two daring innovators: Édouard Parinet and Brice Laffond. With their enthusiasm, curiosity and passion, the two men are producing exceptional wines that faithfully reflect the expression of the great terroirs of the Beaujolais region.
The vineyard
This Moulin-à-Vent appellation wine comes from plots located at the northern end of the Beaujolais region, on a mosaic of terroirs composed of gorrhe, manganese and iron oxide. This cuvée is made from vines that are an average of 60 years old.
The vintage
The year 2019 saw sunny weather conditions. An episode of frost appeared on the night of April 3 to 4, followed by a summer season marked by particularly high temperatures.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully placed in 30-litre bins before being meticulously sorted on two sorting tables. Once harvested, 60% of the grapes are destemmed to preserve their integrity and freshness. Vinification is sulfite-free, with each day punctuated by careful pumping over and meticulous punching of the cap. Fermentation is controlled, with a maximum temperature of 25°C, over a period of 15 to 18 days. After fermentation, the wine is aged, part (70%) in stainless steel tanks, part (30%) in barrels, contributing to a delicate balance between freshness and complexity. Aging continues for 12 months in barrels, and 6 months in stainless steel tanks.
