Description
The expression and balance of a Fronsac red wine
The estate
A beautiful estate situated on the right bank of Bordeaux, Château de La Dauphine has become, over the years, one of the fine wines in the Fronsac appellation.
The vineyard
A benchmark among Fronsac wines, Château de La Dauphine enjoys a tapestry of terroirs that spread over nearly 66 hectares, of which 40 hectares are used in the production of the 2021 vintage. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on clay-limestone, clay-silt soils on limestone-clay-sandstone, known as molasse de Fronsadais, or on asteriated limestone.
Committed to an ethical and environmental approach, Château de La Dauphine cultivates its vineyards using certified organic farming practices and biodynamic methods. Since 2018, the ethical commitment of the estate has been enhanced by an EMS and HEV level 3 certification.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and by plot. The grapes are received by gravity and sorted twice. Fermentation is thermo-regulated at 26°C. Vatting for 25 days. Extraction is carried out by manual pumping over. Vertical hydraulic pressing with juice separation. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels (30% of which are new barrels), as is ageing in separate batches for 12 months with 30% new wood.
The blend
Château de La Dauphine 2021 is a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
