Description
The structure and aromatic intensity of a Loire red wine
The estate
Founded between 800 and 1000 AD by Benedictine monks, the Château de Fosse-Sèche estate was owned by the Church for several centuries. Passionate about wine and ecology, Guillaume Pire founded the estate in 1998, with the ambition of producing unique Loire wines that authentically express their terroir. Guillaume was joined by his twin brother, Adrien, in 2010.
The vineyard
Château de Fosse-Sèche watches over a 15-hectare vineyard, with a unique geology, which is farmed using organic and biodynamic practices. Composed of flint and iron oxide, these soils also benefit from a cool and windy exposure. Along with their wives, Guillaume and Adrien Pire are strongly committed to carrying out an environmentally friendly approach. Thus, one third of the land is dedicated to the cultivation of vines and the remaining two thirds to the preservation of biodiversity and nature. Thus, 30 hectares are entirely dedicated to the development of ecosystems.
Château de Fosse-Sèche is renowned for its unique Loire wines, which harmoniously combine precision, purity and power.
The wine
Château de Fosse-Sèche's 2020 Réserve du Pigeonnier is a Vin de France that stems from a vineyard where the vines are over 60 years old and are planted on soils composed of flint with gravel bound by a slightly clayey soil. This terroir, which favours deep rooting, benefits from a mild climate with an oceanic influence, ideal conditions to guarantee the slow and gradual ripening of the grapes.
The blend
Cabernet Franc (100%).
