Description
A fresh and lively Sauternes wine
The estate
Château de Fargues is an utterly unique estate in Sauternes. Although the property did not produce sweet white wine during the 1855 classification (the red vines were replaced by white vines at the beginning of the last century), this magnificent property has all the makings of a Premier Cru Classé. And for good reason, the Lur Saluces family, the historical owners of Château de Fargues, elevated Château d'Yquem before selling it more recently to the luxury giant, LVMH. Thus, at Château de Fargues, the standards of excellence ressemble the values of Château d'Yquem and only release vintages that are up to the estate’s exacting standards.
The vintage
A particularly early budburst was followed by a dry and cool spring. Flowering was recorded at the beginning of June. A fine, hot July preceded a hot, stormy August. Although the grapes reached full maturity in the first ten days of September, rainy conditions over the following two weeks favoured the development of botrytis. The ideal climatic conditions during the harvest gave rise to a great Sauternes wine, elegant and perfectly concentrated.
The blend
Sémillon

Château de Fargues 1996: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Colour
This wine showcases a beautiful golden-orange hue, with copper highlights.
Nose
The fresh and elegant nose gives off fragrances of acacia, broom, candied lemon and orange, sustained by a subtle hint of spice (cinnamon).
Palate
The lively and creamy mouthfeel exudes an alluring aromatic richness. Lemon, quince paste, apricot are all aromas that blend harmoniously with notes of grilled almonds or cinnamon. Throughout the tasting, the palate is marked by its balance, its freshness and its subtle bitterness.
Food and wine pairing
This Sauternes wine will complement oysters, white meats served with a creamy sauce.
