Description
The power and delicacy of a promising vintage by Clerc Milon
Château Clerc Milon is an estate on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, which today guarantees great quality in the Pauillac appellation.
A Grand Cru Classé in the official classification of 1855, Château Clerc Milon has become known as a reference point, vintage after vintage, and one of the most sought-after wines in the wine market of Bordeaux.
Château Clerc Milon 2017 once again achieves an excellent quality with its blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenère.
With this long-awaited vintage, Château Clerc Milon 2017 promises to be quite auspicious, despite a lower quantity than average produced. Despite the frost of April 27th, which hit the entire region of Bordeaux, Château Clerc Milon preserved the quality of its fruit, aided by the warm temperatures during the month of May, which advanced the vegetative cycle of the vine. After a rainy June, the warm summer temperatures combined with significant dryness resulted in small berries, with very concentrated colours and sugar. The harvest came early in 2017. At Château Clerc Milon, they began on September 13th and continued until the 29th with Carménère.
In the glass, the Château Clerc Milon 2017 displays a very dense and very vibrant, garnet-red colour. On the nose, the aromatic palette reveals the solar character of the vintage, while highlighting the freshness of the fruit. The first nose opens with notes of black fruit (blackberries), punctuated by slightly roasted notes from the barrel. When the wine is swirled, the nose evolves noble mineral aromas. This aromatic palette offers classy notes, evoking the finesse of graphite and the scent of gunflint to finish upon delicious cocoa notes. On the palate, the attack is marked by its freshness, while also offering a nice texture, which is juicy and generous with chiseled, finely grained tannins. The aromatic development reveals gourmet aromas of cherry pit, evolving into bitter hints of chocolate. The persistent finish ends on a nice minerality, leaving a pleasant chalky texture on the palate. A wine from Pauillac already displaying a beautiful personality, rich in aromas and beautifully structured on the palate.
