Description
The richness and expression of a Pessac-Léognan red wine
The estate
Château Carbonnieux was founded in the 13th century by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. Located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the château is one of the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired the château, which became a Classified Growth in 1959 for its red and white wines.
The vineyard
Château Carbonnieux 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan wine made from a vineyard that extends over a tapestry of soils ranging from clay-limestone to Günzian gravel. 55 hectares are dedicated to red grape varieties. The vines are 25 years old on average. The entire vineyard bears a High Environmental Value level 3 label. In 2021, 25% of the vineyard is managed using organic farming practices.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are sorted on the vine and then before and after destemming. Fermentation lasts an average of 10 days and is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aged for 15 to 18 months in Bordeaux barrels, 40% of which are new.
The blend
This Château Carbonnieux 2021 red wine comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (58%), Merlot (28%), Cabernet Franc (7%) and Petit Verdot (7%).
