Description
The smoothness and finesse of a Margaux wine
The estate
Owned by the Guillement family since 1932, Château Boyd-Cantenac is one of the most consistent wines of the Margaux appellation. This 3rd Classified Growth of 1855 seduces those who love fine Margaux with its unique style, a testament to the estate’s unique know-how. Endowed with a great ageing potential, the wines of Château Boyd-Cantenac present an aromatic complexity specific to Margaux, while the palate is suave and refined.
The vineyard
Château Boyd-Cantenac 2021 is a Margaux wine that stems from a 17-hectare vineyard, located in the heart of the appellation. The vines are 38 years old on average and are planted on siliceous gravel.
The vintage
The rainy and relatively mild conditions during the winter months favoured an early budburst. The vineyard was hit by frost from April 6th to 9th and then on May 3rd and 4th. The coolness and heavy rainfall in May slowed down flowering and caused significant run-off. The high temperatures recorded at the beginning of June gave way to relatively cool and humid weather, leading to strong mildew pressure. The veraison was slow and rather heterogeneous. The months of August and September were punctuated by ideal temperature variations which enabled the grapes to ripen gradually.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (71%)
Merlot (18%)
Petit Verdot (8%)
Cabernet Franc (3%).
