Description
A generous and precise great red wine from Saint-Julien
The estate
A superb estate with magnificent gardens, Château Beychevelle is one of the most prestigious properties of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. More radiant than ever, the property now boasts a brand new, state-of-the-art winery, designed by the architect Arnaud Boulain. The style of Château Beychevelle is defined by the consistently exceptional quality of its wines. Powerful, juicy and structured, they elegantly express the finesse of the great terroir of Saint-Julien. Made to be aged, the wines of Château Beychevelle evolve beautifully over years in the cellar.
The vineyard
Out of the total 250 hectares of the property, Château Beychevelle reigns over 90 hectares of vineyard land. The unique Beychevelle terroir is characterised by its magnificent ridges of Garonne gravel and the close proximity of the Gironde, which regulates the climate and protects the vines from temperature extremes.
The vintage
A mild and dry start to the year, which encouraged an early bud break, was followed by a hot and humid spring. Brief cool and moist spells in April and May did not slow down the vine cycle. Ripening began on 10 July. The dry and sunny summer was accompanied by a salvaging spell of rain in mid-August. The first fifteen days in September, marked by hot days and cool nights, made it possible for an optimal level of ripeness to be achieved, allowing for harvests of high-quality, concentrated and beautifully coloured grapes despite their small size.
Winemaking and ageing
In line with the greatest vintages at the estate, the 2020 Château Beychevelle is the product of a rigorous selection from the 85 batches produced this year. Ageing is carried out in barrels (70% new).
Blend
The 2020 Château Beychevelle is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (51%), Merlot (45%) and Petit Verdot (4%).
