Description
The fruity expression and elegance of a Pauillac Second Wine
The estate
The Libéral family has reigned over Château Haut-Bages Libéral since the beginning of the 18th century. Over the years, these fine connoisseurs have gathered the finest Pauillac terroirs. Placed in the hands of Claire Villars-Lurton in 1982, Château Haut-Bages Libéral entered an era that revived age-old, sustainable and ethical viticultural practices.
The vineyard
Château Haut-Bages Libéral has been certified in organic farming since 2019 and obtained a biodynamic certification in 2021. The 30 hectares of vines are cultivated on Günzian gravel upon a clay-limestone substrate.
The wine
La Chapelle de Haut-Bages is the Second Wine of Château Haut-Bages Libéral. This Pauillac wine is made from a vineyard composed of clay-limestone Graves soils and located around the property, as well as a vineyard on the Bages plateau, characterised by its deep gravel.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification by plot. Maceration with the addition of a neutral gas in order to favour gentle movements. Vertical pressing. Protection of the must from oxidation by nitrogen inerting during transfers. Aged for 6 months in new barrels (20%), second-fill barrels (40%) and ovoid vats (40%).
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (50%)
Merlot (50%).
