Description

Chanson releases a complex and elegant Beaune Premier Cru Monopole wine

The property

Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous houses in Burgundy. The estate is located in a bastion erected at the beginning of the 16th century as a watchtower with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles" and today dedicated to ageing the estate’s wines. Well known to lovers of great Burgundy wines, Domaine Chanson offers confidential vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the greatest wine-producing villages of the Côte de Beaune.

The vineyard

This Premier Cru Monopole 2016 from Chanson is a Beaune wine made from a 3.80 hectare plot located mid-slope in the heart of the appellation. This Clos des Fèves vineyard is listed as early as 1307 under the Latin name "Fae" (beech tree in Latin).

The vintage

A cold and rainy winter followed by an episode of frost in April characterised the start of the 2016 vintage. At the beginning of May, mild and rainy weather contributed to the slowing down of the growth cycle, causing millerandage in many plotss. The summer season saw hot, dry weather, which gave way to a sunny harvest at the end of September.

Winemaking and ageing

Fermentation in whole bunches. The wine was aged for 14-18 months in the 15th century Bastion with a moderate proportion of new barrels.
